Today has started with another kitten on its way for emergency eye removal but this time thankfully with our veterinarian rather than the ER. Send out some good vibes to Valorian as he undergoes surgery to remove the extremely swollen and infected eye! He is currently purring in the lap of the medical team on the way to meet up with our vet down in Roswell, NM (where they went yesterday to do a 3 day clinic with our Wild Blue Cats Mobile Surgical Unit)
Varum is doing amazing post surgery. Our medical team reports from Roswell, NM that he has gained weight past his intake weight, is eating on his own, and is starting to utilize his ears to pinpoint where things are making it look like he’s looking at you when you know he isn’t seeing anything.
Our four fosters with the remaining 14 older kittens report swelling is greatly reducing in their eyes giving us some hope that some we thought were going to need to be removed might be saved. All 14 are now eating on their own and all have been gaining weight. Play is becoming more frequent and purring is starting to ramp up with them all.
The two new 10 day old kittens are improving after a rough start yesterday. One is latching onto the bottle to nurse the other (who was unresponsive when found) is still a bit behind but taking feeding from a syringe. We hope as he gains back his strength that nursing from the bottle will start in earnest. Both kittens are with our amazing bottle feeders who have many years of experience with hundreds of bottle babies through the years. If anyone can pull them through, it’s these ladies!
We are VERY close to our immediate need goal of $2000 with direct donations and our Facebook Fundraiser! Thank you to all who donated! If everyone who sees this pitched in $1-$5 we would meet the needs of all 18 kittens and 20+ adult cats who need spay and neuter surgery on this small family owned ranch.
