Next update on 10/31 for a Happy Halloween!
The Eye Caramba 18 has become the Eye Caramba 19 Kittens! We dropped off traps to the ranch to prepare for the adult cats TNR (trap, neuter, return) surgeries on the 26th and low and behold another kitten was in the same location the first 18 were found in! Little Valval also is fighting eye infection but is improving and may not lose either eye.
The other kittens all had eye rechecks and some were spayed and neutered this week! So far, we have 5 of the original 16 Eye Kittens who have been cleared for adoption! Volute, Varnish, Vel, Verzenio and Valeric should be up on our website and appearing at adoption fairs soon. Vibration’s eyes were saved. Two weeks ago, his left eye had extruded eye contents, yesterday he had good pressures in both eyes. We think he also has some vision. Volatility’s eyes have also been saved. Some of the kittens will have rechecks done on Nov 8th as their eyes are healing but not to the extent we’d hoped to see. Some removal surgeries may still take place in the future.
Varum is still fighting for his life! The damage to his esophagus is taking a long time to heal and he is not eating/swallowing because of it. Our veterinarian will try to insert a feeding tube farther down so he can get the nutrients he needs to live. Keep sending strength and healing vibes to Varum. His second emergency surgery was not without high costs… we have added the $6000 total for this surgery to our fundraising goal and will extend our fundraiser to the end of November in hopes of having all Varum’s costs met.
The TNR Day for the rest of the cats on the ranch is here! Tomorrow 26 October the remaining adult and young teen cats who live on the ranch will be spayed and neutered, vaccinated, and returned to be a great working colony for the ranch. Thanks to everyone who has donated we were able to provide this service to the family run ranch. Having a stable working cat colony is a must for ranches to keep the mice and other vermin out of the feed. These surgeries will help them keep a healthy working colony without tons of extra kittens every year.
A handmade quilt to commemorate the 19 kittens is in the works and will be going into Wild Blue Cats Fancy Feast online auction the first part of November to continue to raise funds for these precious lives. Sign up to bid on items via this link: http://wildblue.cbo.io/
Please share our fundraiser to help us get the word out as far as we can. Varum’s emergency surgery was not something we ever expected along with costs higher than we thought! Wild Blue Cats couldn’t do this without all of your support!
