I was looking for something more to occupy my time and I’ve always loved cats. Wild Blue Cats! was a perfect fit. I became a volunteer in Grounds keeping and maintaining the Memorial Gardens and somehow was appointed to lead the team.
I also began helping Kerry with his projects in Kaylene’s Kradle and Anstead’s Alley. Later I assembled the greenhouse in Maya’s Village with assistance from the Groundskeepers. I enjoy building things. I like the satisfaction that comes from doing a job well.
After a few months I joined the Socialization team too. It’s a lot like raising kids – you spend your time getting them domesticated and then they leave you.
I’ve had cats most of my life. Two went to Germany with me (twice)! There’s something special about each one. I’ve got 5 cats now. (Don’t tell the city) Joey is my oldest, a 14-year-old black medium hair from the Humane Society. He was rescued from an alley and adopted by my daughter. Then she grew up and got married and I got the cat. I had his brother too but lost him to cancer in 2019. After a couple of months, I brought home Porsche, a 13-year-old dilute calico. She’s the sweetest cat I’ve ever owned. (She’s cuddling in my lap as I write this).
After joining WBC, I realized it was unlikely that Flo, Flynn (FKA Frock), and Flair would find a forever home. People take, one, sometimes two, but never three at one time. So, I divided my house with a screen door in the hall. The 3 F’s share the master bedroom, bath, and walk-in closet, 460 square feet. When the weather gets nice, they’ll have access to a 140 SF catio as well. Flo and Flynn have become my friends and I’m still working with Flair. She’s slowly coming around.
