Sometimes…not always and probably not often, life just works out for a group of wild, feral kitties.  We got a call a few months ago from a fellow down in the southern part of Colorado Springs about a group of 5 wild kitties trying to survive in his not friendly to kitties neighborhood.  He had a heart for them – just no room for them.  His own kitty was very territorial and, while an indoor kitty, his pet was quite distressed that there were cats outside his window.  Plus, the neighbors were very unkind to the kitties who were just trying to survive.  So…on a dark, cold winter’s night a TNR team from Wild Blue including Susan, Wendy and Chris ventured into the neighborhood to catch them.  Well – that took a few days but catch them they did and brought them to Wild Blue to be fixed, vaccinated and placed into the barn cat program.  We named them with each name starting with the letter U but I must admit, those names were a mouthful so they became known as THE U’s.  And now, the rest of the story.  We really try our best with each kitty to assess the best possible placement for them.  That said, we determined that these kitties would best thrive as a cohesive team and would be best placed together.  As the weeks went by they were passed over many times by potential adopters for a variety of reasons.  Enter adopter Melanie who lives up in the mountains in the middle of nowhere Colorado.  She initially wanted 3 barn kitties however when I told her THE U’s story she immediately said yes.   She sent pics of their new place and she met each requirement – safe heated place to acclimate for a few weeks, plenty of food and water and away from traffic.  A couple of days ago I took a drive up there with the U’S and WOW – these kitties won the lottery.  A beautiful as the eye can see panoramic vista AND their own private YURT!  Squee!  A yurt!  So, never again will these 5 kitties know an unkind word, terrifying cars driving past, hunger or bitter cold.  They will have a loving mom, a full belly and a safe environment.  We should all be so lucky.  Thank you Melanie and everyone who came together as a village to provide a most excellent outcome for these precious lives!
