The Update you’ve been waiting for and didn’t know it… Side by Side photos from intake to today 9 days later! WARNING: Some of these photos are graphic and I’ve blurred the worst two from Varum and Valorian, the worst ones are lower down so you can stop scrolling if it gets too bad.
I asked all the fosters to send photos of the kittens today with their names! We’ve had people asking who is who and if we’d named them all. Yes, Wild Blue Cats gives every cat who comes into our care a Wild Blue name. Each property, colony, single intake, or Roswell set of cats are assigned a letter and names are chosen from our list for that letter. The ranch kittens are assigned the letter V. No name is ever used twice, that’s right, each cat who comes into Wild Blue Cats has a unique name all their own and will continue to do so as the years go on.
Let’s start today’s update with our two bottle babies, Validation and Vaxes. They are both eating well and are two weeks old today! Eyes are open and clear on both and our bottle-feeding foster is doing an amazing job keeping them fed and healthy.
Varum and Valorian are doing super after their eye removals. Eating, playing, and just being kittens down with our medical team in Roswell, NM. The decision to remove Varum’s eyes saved his precious life and we appreciate the team at Powers Pet Emergency and Specialty for fighting with us to give him this chance. Valorian’s single eye removal will hopefully be the last surgery he needs aside from neutering when he is ready. See the video from Roswell for how great they are doing.
Now I’ll take you foster by foster for updates on the 14 remaining. Our first foster has Volute, Vel, Varnish, and Vorticity. All four kittens eyes have improved greatly and today she could see normal eye color in Vel’s right eye instead of just cloudy ulcers and infection!
Our second foster is caring for Vault, Valence, and Vanceril. Vault and Valence are both eating great and are improving by leaps and bounds. Play is becoming more common place between these two. Vanceril is not eating well and still has what looks like an abscess in his sinus or eye socket on his left side. She is syringe feeding him to keep his weight stable and has started warm compresses to hopefully help the abscess drain as the antibiotics do their thing. He prefers to lay on the heating pad and rest which is to be expected. She reports that all three kittens are quick to purr and like to be held.
Volatility, Vibration, and Vellum are being cared for by our third foster. She reports their eyes aren’t improving as quickly as our first two fosters’ kittens but our side by sides show improvement over time. They are not wanting to eat the wet food as often either so she’ll be trying some different foods to see if they prefer a different brand of wet. Volatility has lost a bit of weight but stabilized today. The three are graduating up to a larger space so they have more room to explore and play.
Finally our fourth foster has Verzenio, Valeric, Viability, and Validity. Two of these four kittens may have to have eye removal done but they are all eating and gaining weight so we are taking a wait and see approach. Verzenio and Valeric like to wrestle with each other, no purring yet but all four relax into the fosters arms for pets.
We have exciting news on the donation front as well, on Saturday at our weekly adoption fair a longtime supporter of Wild Blue Cats made a matching donation to our online fundraiser goal amount! They wanted to be sure the kittens received the best care possible while keeping the other kitties under Wild Blue Cats care taken care of. We have received many off Facebook direct donations as well in varying amounts. I cannot tell you what it means for the cats of Wild Blue to have this support! You are all amazing!
